A free Bible verse projector app for small churches — King James Version & Tagalog Ang Biblia
macOS build is unsigned and built for Apple Silicon (untested on Intel Macs) — see the note below on getting past Gatekeeper's warning.
Getting started
Scripture Cast is a single .exe with no installer — download it and double-click to run. The first time you run it, Windows will show a security warning. That's expected for any free, unsigned app (a code-signing certificate costs money each year, which small open-source tools like this one don't carry) — here's exactly what you'll see and how to get past it safely.
1. Double-click the downloaded .exe. You'll see this:
This is Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, not an antivirus detection — it flags any app it hasn't seen enough people run yet, regardless of what the app actually does. Click More info.
2. Click "Run anyway"
The dialog expands to show the app name and confirms it as unsigned ("Unknown publisher") — this is normal for a free tool distributed straight from GitHub rather than the Microsoft Store. Click Run anyway. Windows remembers your choice, so this only happens on the very first run of that downloaded file.
3. The first launch takes a little longer than usual
Give it a few seconds — Windows Defender is scanning the new file in the background before it opens, which only happens once. Every launch after this one starts quickly.
On macOS: getting past Gatekeeper
Unzip the download, then open the app. macOS Gatekeeper will block it since it's unsigned (no Apple Developer account is attached to this project) — here's how to get past it:
- Double-click the app. You'll see a dialog saying it's blocked to protect your Mac — click Done (not "Move to Trash").
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down — there's a line saying "Scripture Cast" was blocked, with an Open Anyway button next to it. Click it.
- Confirm again in the popup that appears (may ask for your password or Touch ID).
This only needs doing once. Built and tested on Apple Silicon; it hasn't been tested on Intel Macs.
4. Search for a verse and send it to the display
Type a reference like "John 3:16" into Find a Passage, or browse by book and chapter on the left. Click a verse, then Show Display Window to put it on the projector or second screen. Once you're comfortable with the basics, every action here also has a keyboard shortcut (Enter to send, Ctrl+F to jump to search, and more) — customizable under Settings → Shortcuts for running a service hands-on-keyboard.
5. Switch between King James Version and Tagalog Ang Biblia anytime
The version dropdown in the top-right switches translations mid-service without losing your place.
6. Set your church name and logo
Open Settings → Identity to replace "Your Church" with your church's actual name and logo — this shows in the control panel header, not on the projected display.
Built for small churches, not big productions
Most church presentation software is built for large production teams — slide decks, media libraries, stage displays, song lyrics with full media management. Scripture Cast does one thing: it puts a Bible verse on the second screen, clearly, for the person running sound and slides on a laptop with no production team behind them. It was built for small churches here in the Philippines that need something reliable and free, without learning a heavier tool like OpenLP or ProPresenter just to show a verse during the sermon.
King James Version and Tagalog Ang Biblia
Scripture Cast ships with both the King James Version (with red-letter text and italicized supplied words) and the Tagalog Ang Biblia, so services that preach or read in Tagalog aren't stuck with an English-only tool. It's also compatible with OpenLP Bible databases, so more translations can be added if a church needs them.
